How to connect and set up your headphone to record and listen to playback:
- Connect the headphones to your laptop via USB
- Hover your mouse in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and click on the Settings icon
- Select Control Panel
- Select Hardware and Sound
- Select Sound, then Manage Audio Device
- You are now in the "Sound" settings window on the Playback tab
- Find your device and select it - Headset Earphone - Microsoft LifeChat
- Click on Set Default at the bottom of the box
- Click on Properties - a new window opens up
- Click on the Levels tab
- Headset Earphone - move the slider tab to 85
- Headset Microphone - move the slider tab to 85
- Make sure the little audio icon does not have a red circle in it - if so, click on it to remove it
- Click OK at the bottom of the screen - the window closes
- Now click on the Recording tab at the top
- Find your device and select it - Headset Microphone - Microsoft LifeChat
- Click on Set Default at the bottom of the box
- Click on Properties - a new window opens up
- Click on the Levels tab
- Headset Microphone - move the slider tab to 85
- Make sure the little audio icon does not have a red circle in it - if so, click on it to remove it
- Click OK at the bottom of the screen - the window closes
- Click OK in the remaining Sound window - it will close
- Do a test narration in Office Mix and see if you can record and hear your playback
- Preview your playback
- Happy with your recording? Just X out of the black Office Mix window.
- Unhappy with your recording? Delete it via the Edit your Recording dropdown menu.
A few things to remember when recording:
- Make sure the little red light is NOT ON on your headphone/mic - the sound is muted when the red light is on and you cannot record
- Remember to select the slide that corresponds with your narration - DO NOT record everything on the first slide!
- The length of your audio will not match the duration of your slide (slide default is 7:00 seconds)
